Memphis routs Pepperdine, Hoyas open Big East with win

(Newser) – No. 3 Kansas improved to 14-0 for the sixth time in school history with an 85-60 win over Boston College today, the AP reports. Darnell Jackson led the Jayhawks with 25 points and 22 rebounds as Kansas built a 25-point lead in the second half. KU outrebounded the Eagles (10-3) 39-24. In other Top 25 action:

No. 2 Memphis won its 40th straight home game with a 90-53 rout of Pepperdine. Doneal Mack led the Tigers (13-0) with 23 points.
No. 7 Georgetown opened its defense of the Big East championship with a 58-46 win over Rutgers. Freshman Austin Freeman led the Hoyas (11-1, 1-0) with 13 points.

(NEWSER) - Louisville used a strangling defense to shut down No. 6 Georgetown's offense last night and scored just enough point itself for a 59-51 Big East win, reports the Associated Press. David Padgett scored 18 points and Jerry Smith had 16 for the Cardinals (18-6, 8-3), but it was the defense that won it as the Hoyas (19-3, 9-2) were held to 35% shooting and 20 points in the second half.
