A car-wash attendant named Gilberto Araujo had to show up at his own wake to prove to everyone he wasn't dead. ABC News and the Guardian have the strange tale from Brazil: It started when another car-washer who kind of looked like Araujo was murdered, and both police and Araujo's brother misidentified the body. The family set about making arrangements, and on the day of the wake, one of Araujo's buddies informed him that he was supposed to be dead. The 41-year-old walked over to his mother's house to see.

"The girls fell, fainted," she recalls. "[We] had people running. The street filled with bikes, cars, everything. It was a fright. I’m very happy because what mother has a son that they say is dead then turns up alive?” (More strange stuff stories.)
