New Jersey Begins Gas Rationing Today When you can get gas depends on your license plate number By John Johnson, Newser Staff Posted Nov 3, 2012 6:20 AM CDT 21 comments Comments People line up at a gas station waiting to fill up Friday in Newark, N.J. As a result, drivers will have to check their license plates before filling up: It's gas-rationing time, a la the 1970s, reports NJ.com. Starting today, drivers with license plates ending in even numbers can get gas only on even days of the month, and those with odd numbers on odd days. The rule is in effect in the 12 hardest-hit counties. For the record, those with vanity plates fall into the "odd" category.
