Hillary Clinton's and John McCain's slim New Hampshire leads grew even slimmer in the latest poll, Reuters reports. McCain leads Romney 32% to 30%, within the margin of error in the Reuters/Zogby poll out today. Clinton leads Obama 32% to 28%, and pollsters expect that margin to shrink as Obama gets a boost from his Iowa win. Edwards is at 20%. Most of the polling took place before the Iowa results were known.
Mike Huckabee, too, is expected to get an Iowa bounce, but he's at 12% now and not expected to contend in NH. Independent voters are crucial there: In 2000, they powered McCain to victory, and they still prefer him over Romney 42% to 29%. But most independents will be voting Democrat this time, potentially making up 40% of all Democrat ballots. That’s good news for Obama—34% of independents support him, to Clinton’s 26%.
