Anti-Gay Marriage Parisians Clash With Topless Activists

(Newser) – Clashes erupted in Paris yesterday when topless protesters from the Ukrainian group Femen challenged a Catholic-led march to oppose gay marriage. The activists were punched and pushed to the ground after chanting "In Gay We Trust" and spraying white powder from bottles, the AP reports. A law proposed by France's Socialist government could see marriage and adoption legalized for gay couples by early next year.

I think that redefining marriage to include same-sex couples is like redefining a treehouse to be any small building, whether it's in a tree or not. Just as a tree house is by definition a small building in a tree, marriage has always been defined as being between a man and a woman (or several women in some cultures, or rarely between a woman and several men). I wouldn't be as opposed to gays having some kind of civil union, but don't call it a marriage. And don't jump to the conclusion that I'm a radical rightie - I voted for Obama and wish that healthcare reform was more extensive than it is...
