Hostess: Last-Ditch Talks With Union Failed

Twinkies maker plans to liquidate after all

(AP) – Hostess Brands lived to die another day. The maker of Twinkies and Ding Dongs said late today that it failed to reach an agreement with its second biggest union. As a result, Hostess plans to continue with a hearing tomorrow in which a bankruptcy court judge will decide whether the company can shutter its operations. Hostess said it would not comment on the breakdown in talks with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union other than to say that mediation "was unsuccessful." Of course, even if Hostess goes down, Twinkies and other popular products will likely find new owners.

Executive Rayburn let out the dirty secret,,,"these old plants." meaning instead of investing in thecompany, they spent the profits on corporate jets, big bonuses, high salaries, top loaded management,,,,the competition with its new equipment is lowering costs driving the Ferrari while Hostess by not modernizing is driving the Model T. Whose operaing costs will be lower? of course they blame the union, neglecting the fact that pay concession, vacation give backs, and crewsize concessions were made in return of a promise of modernization, which never came about,,,,it happened in the steel industry too,,,,,the Americn way---blame the worker,,,,,,
