(Newser) – It's not much, but the Oregonian has tracked down an acquaintance of mall shooter Jacob Tyler Roberts who provides an inkling of what was happening in the 22-year-old's mind: The acquaintance, who lived with Roberts for a few months earlier in the year, said Roberts had recently sold all his possessions and was excited about a planned move to Hawaii. Then he called a few days ago to say he'd missed his flight.

  • "Asked whether Roberts may have been depressed and might have just snapped, (the acquaintance) replied, 'I think that's exactly what happened.'"

"It's not much, but the Oregonian has..." You're right, John Johnson. It's not much.

I don't think I will ever understand why someone would hurt innocent people like this. If you are so miserable or unhappy walk out into the woods and end it where it won't affect anyone else. Why do these people want to hurt so many others before they go?

Right before my suicide attempt, I sold everything I had that could be sold, packed up my personal items, and gave everything else away. I told myself "at the end of this week I'll either kill myself or move." I guess he had a similar plan... bit creepy.
