6.3 Quake Strikes Off California Coast

A large earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Southern California and Mexico this morning, according to the US Geological Survey. The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3, was recorded at 2:36am local time, 163 miles south southwest of the California city of Avalon. It was at the relatively shallow depth of 6.3 miles.
