(Newser) – In one of the most detailed accounts of Friday's massacre in Newtown given by a child, Nicholas Sabillon describes the horrifying scene inside Sandy Hook Elementary. The 9-year-old was in music class when the first shots were fired, and says music teacher Maryrose Kristopik led the children into a closet and locked the room's door. "We held onto the instruments to not make any noise," says Nicholas, who the AFP reports had a gong in his hands. Then:

  • "We were all really scared and then we prayed... Miss Kristopik gave us all lollipops. We thought it would be our last snack. Then we heard this glass shatter and we were all scared, and we heard knocking on the class door from the outside. Luckily, we were all quiet, and the guy was talking 'Let me in, let me in!' and we never opened the door."
Sabillon then explains how the kids left the school, running past a line of armed police "as fast as we could" to a fire station, where they were given water and crackers. Mom Sherry adds that parents were told to go to the fire station, but were initially told just three adults had been shot. "There was not one mention of children," she says. "We would never have thought that children were injured." As for Nicholas, his ordeal continues: "When you go to bed, it feels scary, and you keep having this dream in your head about it. Because if you lived it, it's always stuck in your head." (Click to read about the dogs sent to ease the town's pain.)

@Odow80 The Dem are smarter when they don't attack directly CA Teacher Union, they just blame the school system failing the students, and they ask for more money as the best and only solution for school failure. Therefore, it is not surprised that 95% CA teachers are DEM members. More the Reps than the Democrats advocate for a reform of teacher evaluation and a reform of a teacher-hiring /firing process, and they ask the salary increase to be based on performance, not on the seniority. In this case, they attack directly the interest of each California teacher. The following words I try to explain to you within my best knowledge: 1) Overpaid: the current salary system based on the seniority, an infective teacher can be paid higher than an effective teacher, then what word can you replace for the word "Overpaid"? 2) Lazy: Though no one can prove a teacher being lazy, any students can tell you who are their lazy teachers if you are really interested. 3) By different definitions of effectiveness, a teacher/school can be classified as either ineffective or effective. 4) Plus some hazard pay: real teachers have burning passion for teaching, not money. If they love money, then they choose wrong career. (education / military careers are not for them.) However, both of the parties try not to discuss the real impact / effects of illegal immigrants on the learning environment and resources, and the importance of parent involvement in the success of Education. They are treating each issue separately.Have you ever bought a car without taking into account the cost of fuel, insurance, safety, parking lot, maintenance cost etc? In a short word, education is very complicated, involving many aspects of human beings, not just money, teacher and students, or just a very simple sentence as yours.

@Odow80:disqus : Cut their budget to the bone... That's the Republican way! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your reply makes me love the members of the DEM-IT party more! In CA, the DEM-IT controls everything: Government, Congress, Assembly. Yet they still cut the budget for Education. The reason of budget cut is no Money; the Republicans have no part in the Cut. Now the DEM-IT party control the White House and Senate, and they will do the same thing when they have no MONEY! The budget cut is due to No Money, not due to the Republican way as your hate fuming!

God bless this little boy and the others who went through this horror, and help them be able to get past this and survive stronger than before. Given time, this can happen. The other little angels who died are now safe with Jesus.
