(Newser) – As expected, police in upstate New York have arrested a former neighbor of William Spengler on charges that she illegally sold him weapons he used in this week's assault on firefighters, reports AP. Dawn Nguyen, 24, faces state and federal felony charges. The Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester, however, has details on a weird twist: Nguyen's family says Spengler stole the guns from Nguyen's car but lied in his suicide note to try to get the family in trouble.

Why? In a voicemail to the newspaper, Nguyen's mother, Dawn Welsher, says Spengler had a crush on Welsher and may have felt jilted when the family moved away a few years ago. "This is nuts," she says. I never supplied this man with nothing. My daughter never supplied him with anything. He’s setting us up.” Follow the link to hear her voicemail, or click here for other coverage on the case.

"Shooter's Ex-Neighbor Arrested on Gun Charges" The Headline is false and misleading. It seems Officials wanted to arrest ex-neighbor Dawn NGUYEN on gun charges. In Texts and other conversations she pretty much confesses or buries herself, but maintains that the guns were stolen from the trunk of her car by ex-neighbor William Spengler Jr., after she had legally purchased them, after William Spengler selected the guns for her while at the gun shop. No police report filed. Dawn M. Nguyen was not arrested on Gun Charges. She was arrested as follows: (1) State Felony charge of "Filing a False Business Record", and issued a Summons / Ticket to appear in state Court on JANUARY 8, 2013 (2) Federal charge of "Lying on Federal Forms", she filed when purchasing 2 guns If convicted, on the federal charge, she faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. After the federal court hearing, Nguyen was simply released. No Bond was posted or even mentioned in the article I read. Read the entire Criminal Complaint, as filed in federal court on December 28, 2012.

Considering Nguyen is an Asian name in general and considering this mans obvious inbreeding I find it doubtful that he would have associated with his neighbors even to purchase firearms
