She Got Out of Jail Free

(Newser) – Hillary Clinton had a “horrendous week” in the lead-up to Tuesday's New Hampshire primary—and won not on merit, but on a “sympathy vote” from women who saw themselves in her, exhausted and “overdosed on multitasking.” The New York Times’ Gail Collins argues that women recognized the sensation of being made to feel like failures by “the men in their lives.”

Collins is happy Clinton won, as any “fan of democracy” should be glad Iowa and New Hampshire didn’t get final say on a Democratic race with “more than one viable option." But Collins gets some digs in, too, saying Hillary “seems most genuine when she’s being dull” and Barack Obama “can get a crowd all worked up with a call to politeness.”
