Count 'Em Again, Says Kucinich

Posted Jan 11, 08 8:01 AM CST in Politics

(Newser) – Longshot Democratic hopeful Dennis Kucinich wants the ballots recounted in the New Hampshire primary, The Hill reports. While he's not under any illusions that a recount would boost his own number—less than 2%—significantly, he says in a letter to the NH secretary of state there are “serious and credible reports, allegations, and rumors" about the vote's integrity.

Kucinich points to disparities between hand-counted and machine-counted ballots, as well as between pre-vote polls and the results. “This is not about my candidacy or any other individual candidacy,” Kucinich said. “It is about the integrity of the election process.”  A state official said he had "every confidence" that the count was correct; Kucinich can have a recount if he wants, he added, but under state law he'll have to pay for it himself.
