(Newser) – It's official: Tina Turner is divorcing America. The pop legend has decided to become a citizen of Switzerland, where she's been living since 1995, giving up her US citizenship in the process. "I'm very happy in Switzerland," she explained to a German-language paper, according to the AFP. "I cannot imagine a better place to live." The 73-year-old has already passed the requisite civics test and interview to make the switch, but still needs approval from the canton of Zurich and federal authorities.

Tina my darling are you White now?  I liked you better when I saw you in concert with your original color.... I liked Michael Jackson when he was original and respected him for his talent and not necessarily for his color. 1942

as a generational contemporary of tina, i fully understand her decision.  especially when one considers the 50's and 60's.  who can blame her because having a black president does not erase the blatant and horrendous racism that even obama has to contend with on a daily basis.  while being inaugurated the first time, there was a meeting where everyone pledged to do everything humanly possible to unseat him.  who can blame her?
