Former GOP congressman Tom Tancredo has backed out of his promise to smoke some legal pot after losing a bet on whether Colorado voters would back legalization. Tancredo—who has never smoked marijuana but supported legalization—says he decided against having "just a puff" with filmmaker Adam Hartle after pressure from his own family.

"My wife is absolutely—she’s pissed," Tancredo told ABC after agreeing to honor the bet. "Oh man, she is not happy." And his conservative friends "just believe what I’m doing is encouraging people to smoke it." he said. "I don’t think people should. That decision is up to an individual." But the final straw was his grandchildren, who were "very upset with grandpa," he says. "Political heat is one thing," he says. "Heat from my family is quite another." (More marijuana stories.)
