(Newser) – Former GOP congressman Tom Tancredo has backed out of his promise to smoke some legal pot after losing a bet on whether Colorado voters would back legalization. Tancredo—who has never smoked marijuana but supported legalization—says he decided against having "just a puff" with filmmaker Adam Hartle after pressure from his own family.

"My wife is absolutely—she’s pissed," Tancredo told ABC after agreeing to honor the bet. "Oh man, she is not happy." And his conservative friends "just believe what I’m doing is encouraging people to smoke it." he said. "I don’t think people should. That decision is up to an individual." But the final straw was his grandchildren, who were "very upset with grandpa," he says. "Political heat is one thing," he says. "Heat from my family is quite another."

Wuss. I'm anti-drug to the core, but, if you make a promise you keep it. Regardless of its stupidity.

I guess its more important to teach your grandchildren that your word means nothing.  He should have smoked it and then explained to them that he made a bet and you have to honor your word if you say you are going to do something.  For that reason it is better to be careful of what you say and promise.  But then a compulsive liar could never teach that lesson could he.

These are the old ideas and old attitudes that must be broken, anyone that drinks alcohol or smokes cigs knows that they are 10 times worst for you but they remain legal - MORE BRAINWASHING
