Two 17-year-old Australian girls faced a sentencing hearing yesterday after pleading guilty to the murder of their friend Eliza Jane Davis because, as they described it, “it just felt right.” They plotted the attack the morning after a party. "We were just talking, and for some reason we just decided to kill her."

One girl held Eliza down while the other strangled her with speaker wire. Several days later they turned themselves in. "We didn't really expect to get away with it," one girl said. Prosecutor Simon Stone said the the girls had earlier considered another victim, and they had practiced by killing two kittens. He called for life in prison. (More Australia stories.)
