Wizards Stun Stumbling Celtics

Posted Jan 13, 08 6:30 AM CST in Sports

(Newser) – While most of New England was busy cheering on the still-undefeated Patriots, the other Boston juggernaut faltered for the second time in three games, falling 85-78 to the Washington Wizards. The Celtics don't think they're invincible, but Paul Pierce knows his team "can play better basketball than we did" yesterday, reports the Boston Globe.

Pierce had 15 points and six assists, combining with his fellow Big Three players Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen for 42 points. The Wizards' 20 offensive rebounds were the most for any Celtics opponent all year, and Boston's 19 turnovers didn't help much, either. Washington's win came despite the team shooting just 36.8% from the field.
