(Newser) – This seems right in character somehow: Maggie Smith, who plays the sharp-tongued Dowager Countess on Downton Abbey, tells CBS she has never watched the show. "Never?" asks Steve Kroft of 60 Minutes in the interview that airs Sunday. "No, I haven't watched it," she answers, as recounted at She promises, however, to do so once the series is wrapped up. "It's frustrating," she explains. "I always see things that I would like to do differently and think, 'Oh, why in the name of God did I do that?'"

The plot is so infuriatingly implausible, I can barely watch it anymore.

I really don't get the appeal of this show. Someone please explain why it's so popular? I saw the first episode on Netflix and it just bore me to death! Nothing interesting was going on at all! All I remember from watching that crap was some poor servant was injured from war everyone was trying to sabotage him in his duties. Then some guy comes to the mansion and looks around with one of the daughters and doesn't want to marry her because we find out later he is sleeping with one of the male servants and he is a giant homo. Then some old woman is plotting, what I forget because it was bullshit. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something.

Downton Abbey is such low brow crap (its known as dumb-down abbey in the UK) I'm always surprised such a great actor was in it.
