It's Awesome Baby! Dickie V Returning Feb. 6

Posted Jan 13, 08 7:31 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – College hoops will soon get its biggest voice back bay-bee! ESPN analyst Dick Vitale,  on the sideline since surgery in December to treat ulcers on his vocal cords, plans to make his broadcasting return on Feb. 6, reports the network.  And there's nothing like returning for a big rivalry game: Duke vs. North Carolina will be his assignment that night.

Known for his endless enthusiasm and interaction with students at games, the 68-year-old Vitale has continued posting opinions online at ESPN.com and dickvitaleonline.com while recuperating. Prior to the surgery, the former Detroit Pistons coach had never missed an assignment dating to 1979. "Believe me, it was very difficult to go 3 1/2 weeks without speaking," he mused in a letter.
