Ottawa's 3-1 loss to the Islanders seemed mostly secondary last night, in light of the recent loss of All-Star Dany Heatley and a fresh injury for Jason Spezza. Though Spezza remained in the game after being hit, he left for the locker room soon after, and his prognosis isn't clear, reports the Ottawa Citizen. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Edmonton seems to have remembered how to score on the power play, as Shawn Horcoff and Ales Hemskey each had a goal and an assist in their team's 2-1 victory over Calgary.
  • San Jose saw a 3-2 lead richochet away in the waning seconds of regulation, and couldn't keep Anaheim from taking charge in overtime to win 4-3.
