Pulp Fiction Screenwriter Busted in Crash

(Newser) – Pulp Fiction screenwriter Roger Avary was arrested last night on charges of manslaughter and driving under the influence after he crashed his car in Ventura County, Calif., killing a passenger and injuring Avary's wife. Avary is free on $50,000 bail and his wife is recovering in the hospital. She was thrown from the car in the single-car collision.

The dead passenger was a 34-year-old resident of Italy, apparently a guest of the couple, who live in Ojai, west of Los Angeles. Avary is best-known for his work with Quentin Tarantino on the Pulp Fiction screenplay, for which they won an Academy Award. He also collaborated on a 2007 film based on the epic Beowulf.
