(Newser) – Gabby Giffords has been named this year's recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage award for her advocacy on reducing gun violence. JFK daughter Caroline Kennedy will present the award to Giffords at a May 5 ceremony. "Instead of retreating following the tragic shooting that ended her congressional career, she has recommitted herself to fighting for a more peaceful society free from hate and violence," says Kennedy in a statement. Giffords, who was left partly paralyzed after the 2011 attack on her in Arizona, is helping to lead an advocacy group on gun control.

A hero? I'm sorry she got shot, but a hero? How much money does she get paid for all this campaigning? Who pays for all the travel and expenses to espouse her ideas on gun banning? Does she get per diems? Sounds like the oscars. Lets pat each other in our special circle on the back and give them a big basket of perks. And I'm sure there are no taxes on these perks. Because she's a hero.

Of course, do this this on Cinco de Mayo so all the illegals can celebrate. They can have a REAL GOOD turnout for this! Most people don't even know what that date represents.

She has a lot in common with JFK,since they both got shot in the head by idiotic nutcases.
