(Newser) – After more than a month of searching, Turkish police have detained a man considered the top suspect in the murder of 33-year-old Sarai Sierra, an American mom and photographer who was found dead in Istanbul last month. A police spokesman says that the suspect, identified as Ziya T., was caught near the Syrian border. Though earlier reports had described the suspect as a homeless man, Turkish media are saying that he is a scrap paper collector who hung out around Istanbul's ancient city walls, where Sierra's body was discovered.

It's not good that she's dead, but she put herself in that situation. "there's a lightning storm outside, so I think I'll go out in the yard and hold a metal rod up in the air".

I don't know what happened here and I know she could have been murdered right here in the United States just as well as Istanbul. If I had a chance to go to Istanbul as a single woman by myself, I would surely go. That is one place I have always wanted to see. It's one of the oldest cities in the world and there is so much history there.

There is obviously some hidden back story here. Who would send their wife and mother of their small children alone to Turkey to take pictures? Why can't someone find the truth here because the story the family is telling stinks.
