(Newser) – A flight to Guantanamo Bay will now cost journalists, lawyers, and Red Cross delegates a hefty $17,000 after the base's commander ordered a halt to the only commercial air service between Florida and the Cuba outpost, the Miami Herald reports. IBC Travel says the commander invoked a federal regulation to cancel the service IBC had operated several times a week for years. It will now offer one-day charters for $17,000, to be approved on a case-by-case basis by the commander.

"Of late, the Defense Department has been trying to restrict lawyers’ access to imprisoned clients who do not have pending cases, it has been violating the attorney-client privilege, and now it is eliminating the only non-military route to Guantanamo," complains a lawyer who often visits the base to meet detainees. "Having no other options doesn’t just harm the prisoners and their lawyers," he says. "It also hurts workers, service members, and their loved ones." Service members and the thousands of other residents at the base will still be able to reach it on a Navy-run shuttle service.

It's about time -- Why should the Military fund such trips? Now, if civilians want a less expensive way to go, why don't they charter a boat from Florida? It's only 90 miles and I'm sure the landing can be coordinated with the Military. Just think how much these civilians, and their organizations, will save!! Besides, don't you remember the President's promise before his first term? Guantanamo would be closed in his first year!! Another promise forgotten and not acted upon!!!

Not the OB you voted for? Har-Har! I took my social security check early. You know, the one I paid $150,000.00, by force into, and now only get $949 per month into. How's that for one dumb investment? BUT, now that you liberals are in charge, I figure my $949 will be increasing at the rate of $50 per year, at OB's new COLA rates and in under 10 years my new SS check will be over $2,000.00 per month In other words, my SS will double and double and double every 10 years, WOO-HOO! Do you know that food and fuel is no longer computed in Granny's SS check? Yup, its true. Harry FU-America Reid and Barry the Ears, took that away from us, while the WH and HOR get to keep their's. How's that for inequality?
