Anaheim's play against Dallas last night looked nothing like its embarrassing losses from earlier this season, and the reason is obvious: Scott Niedermayer. The returned vet had two goals and an assist and drew key penalties in the Ducks' 4-2 defeat of the Stars, reports the Dallas Morning News. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Phoenix captain Shane Doan matched Niedermayer's feats, and Ed Jovanovski had three assists and a goal in the Coyotes' 5-3 victory over San Jose.
  • Patrick O'Sullivan spoiled Edmonton's chance to sweep a five-game homestand by contributing a goal and an assist to Los Angeles' 3-1 win.
