South Korean Women Get In the Swing

(Newser) – Men dominate business in South Korea, and the country has just 250 golf courses. Yet in the nine years since Se Ri Pak won four tournaments as an LPGA rookie, South Koreans have come to dominate the world's top women's tour, the Journal reports.  Ambitious parents even pull their daughters out of school to train.

Pak has racked up $20 million in earnings, inspiring a generation of of Korean girls to hit the greens. The country, which had no tour players in 1997, now has 34 (out of 138 players) in the LPGA's top tier. An entertainment career is the only other way for a South Korean woman to become wealthy in her own right.
