(Newser) – Netflix customers watched more than 4 billion hours of programming in the first quarter of 2013, said CEO Reed Hastings in a Facebook post last night, a number that could make the online streaming service more popular than cable, reports the Huffington Post. With 28 million users, mostly in the United States, that works out to 87 minutes of Netflix a day per subscriber, making it "the most watched cable network, essentially in-line with the Disney Channel," says one analyst. That 4 billion figure is way up from the one billion Hastings reported in the second quarter of 2012, notes Bloomberg.

I love netflix because it doesn't force me to sit through the same repeated commercials for time slots over and over and over and over and over. Also, I can watch what I want when I want. Sick of waiting around for weeks on end for the next lousy episode of something just to have it spoon fed to me between ads. It has a nice selection of movies, however as a Canadian, there really needs to be more selections for us! I've never quite grasped why Hollywood can sell us tickets to see their movies, sell their movies, and profit from the Canadian Dollar, but keeps their precious copyrighted material out of Canada after they make their money. Infuriates me actually, happens to me online as well, stuff that can't be streamed from some other website because it's for the United States only. But meh, I digress. NETFLIX rules :D
