(Newser) – You don't expect a story that begins "man jumps off Empire State Building" to end well. But a Massachusetts tourist has been given a second chance after his suicide attempt—in which he climbed a fence lining the building's 86th floor observation deck just before midnight Wednesday and jumped off—was interrupted by the 85th floor. The 33-year-old landed one floor down and was taken to Bellevue with a broken ankle. The New York Post reports that he faces charges of reckless endangerment, trespassing, and disorderly conduct.

did it ever occur to anyone that if this man truly intended to kill himself he would have jumped from an edge of the building that didn't have a balcony just underneath it? I think rather it was a way of asking for help, getting attention. you don't think he looked down before he jumped?

I don't understand how anyone could or would rate this story as hilarious? This man was in pain and couldn't think of a way to live with it so he wanted to die. It's amazing to me that there are so many cruel people in this world. It never ceases to amaze me.
