(Newser) – Osama bin Laden’s 26-year-old son says he wants to be an “ambassador for peace” between Muslims and the West and is planning a cross-continental horse race to raise money for child war victims, AP reports. Omar Osama bin Laden, one of the al-Qaeda leader’s 19 children, is planning a 3,000-mile race across North Africa with his 52-year-old British wife.

Omar says he trained at an al-Qaeda camp in Afghanistan but left in 2000 because “I don’t want to fight; I like to find another way.” Many think Arabs—"especially the bin Ladens—are all terrorists. This is not the truth," he said. He hasn't denounced his father, but says he believes in the possibility of a truce between al-Qaeda and the West. The race could begin as early as March.
