Democrats Dole Out Subpoenas

Posted Apr 26, 07 8:58 AM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – The Democratic Congress flexed its oversight muscle today, with both houses dishing out subpoenas all the way up to Condi Rice. A House committee subpoenaed the Secretary of State to discuss the lead-up to the Iraq War, while both the House and Senate Judiciary Committees summoned aides involved in the U.S. attorney firings.

RNC officials also got slammed with subpoenas over the White House emails sent through their system. But the day's political checkmate belonged to the House Judiciary Committee, which granted immunity to Monica Goodling, former counsel to Alberto Gonzales. Goodling, a key witness in the U.S. attorneys case, had threatened to take the Fifth if forced to testify.
