(Newser) – Not the finest hour for New York's finest: Firefighters in New York City had to rescue an NYPD officer after he became stuck up a tree while trying to rescue a cat, Gothamist reports. A tower ladder bucket was used to bring the officer—and the cat—down from where they were stuck, about 30 feet above the ground. "All people and animals are safe after this incident," an FDNY spokesman says. The rescue attracted a crowd of students who had just gotten out from a nearby school, a witness tells NBC, adding that fire trucks "took their time" in the rescue.

Cats are never stuck up trees. I had a young cat that ran up a forty foot Eucalyptus tree and sat at the top on the flimsiest of thin branches as it was being knocked around by high winds. It was wailing piteously. It seemed impossible it could get down by itself and I had no idea how to get it down as no fire engine could get near the tree. As soon as I went inside and stop giving it an audience it climbed down easily. It was wailing because it was having a good time and pissing me off.

No doubt cop is exemplary human being. While amusing and heart warming I smell something nasty developing between NYFD and NYPD. They already got bad blood running since 911.
