Rivers Says He Will Play for Chargers

Posted Jan 19, 08 12:13 AM CST in Sports

(Newser) – As far as Philip Rivers is concerned, he is the San Diego Chargers quarterback in Sunday's AFC championship game against the New England Patriots, reports the Associated Press. "The way I felt Monday morning, I didn't think I'd feel as good as I do right now," said Rivers. Coach Norv Turner, however, said Rivers is still doubtful - an official designation in the NFL that means there's only a 25% chance he'll play.

Rivers sprained his right knee in last week's playoff win over the Indianapolis Colts. Earlier yesterday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Rivers' doubtful status was based on a partially torn ACL, as well as the sprained MCL. Billy Volek would play in his place. Meanwhile, star RB LaDainian Tomlinson is probably and TE Antonio Gates is doubtful.
