(Newser) – John McCain joins the chorus calling for Alberto Gonzales to resign. In an interview after officially launching his campaign in New Hampshire, McCain told the Politico that the attorney general could no longer usefully serve the president. "I reached that conclusion a long time ago," he said, "I just haven’t been asked.”

McCain is the fourth Republican senator, and the most prominent, to call for Gonzales to step down. He announced his campaign in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where he emphasized his experience and criticized both President Bush and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on the war. "I know how the world works," said McCain.
