(Newser) – Oh, the joy of being a female CEO, and in the tech industry, no less: At Yahoo's shareholder meeting today, Marissa Mayer got to hear this from a questioner, reports Sam Biddle at ValleyWag (which has the video):

  • "I have 2,000 shares of Yahoo, I'm Greek, and I'm a dirty old man, and you look attractive."
The shareholder then went on to carp about dividends, and Mayer "handled it very well," writes Jay Yarow at Business Insider. "She just ignored his scuzzball comment." And beyond that, the meeting was "largely an uneventful affair," adds John Paczkowski at AllThingsD.

It don't hurt to complement a woman on her looks- Once wrote Marily Von Savant a serious question- "Why is it the most beautiful women in life are ALSO the most intelligent?" Since she has an extremely high IQ, she began to use her photo on the cover of her weekly Parade magazine column and actually replied to me "Thks for the compliment, I needed that"

Sounds more to me like he was just trying to preface his complaint with a compliment, however inept, because he didn't want his complaint to sting too badly, her being a girl and all. Can't exactly blame him, society has set men up so that if they say something unpleasant to a woman about the job she's doing, the women cry and claim he's attacking her because she's a woman, but if a guy tries (however clumsily) to lessen the blow with a compliment, he's also a dirty old bastard for not taking us seriously. The guy had a valid shareholder complaint, and with the way everyone scrutinizes everything that happens with her, he was gonna get tarred and feathered by the media for mentioning it no matter how he phrased it.
