The Hurricanes scored two unanswered third period goals to pull even with the New York Islanders and Cory Stillman provided the power play winner in the extra period to give Carolina a 3-2 win. New York also blew a two-goal lead in their previous game, a 5-3 loss to Philadelphia. Cam Ward had 23 saves for the Hurricanes, reports the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Phoenix winger Shane Doan had a goal and an assist in the Coyotes’ 6-2 win over the Sabres. Phoenix scored three goals in a 5 ½ minute span in the second period.
  • Two Predators, Alexander Radulov and Martin Gelinas, each scored two goals and had an assist in Nashville’s 6-3 win over St. Louis.
