Dungy Will Be Back with Colts Next Year

(Newser) – Tony Dungy will return for his seventh season at the helm of the Colts. Dungy had contemplated retirement each of the past couple seasons, but after discussing the matter with his family he decided to return. "I'm happy to be back. … My whole family's happy and hopefully our team and everyone here is happy," said Dungy, reports the Indianapolis Star.

Jim Caldwell was named as the successor to Dungy, whenever he retires. “We thought it was in our best interest to have a transition plan in place that would allow Jim to that know he's a guy, that in the future, I look to be our head coach,” said owner Jim Irsay. The Colts’ season ended with a loss to San Diego two weeks ago.

    • The Cincinnati Bengals whittled down the Cowboys' 17-point lead in the fourth quarter, but blew it when receiver Miles Austin couldn't catch an endzone pass, Dallascowboys.com reports. Cowboys 31, Bengals 22.
    • The Colts scored 21 points in just over 2 minutes in the fourth quarter, beating the Texans 31-27. Peyton Manning threw two TDs and linebacker Gary Brackett returned a Houston fumble for another score, USA Today reports.

    It's Official: Raiders Fire Kiffin The Oakland Raiders today fired head coach Lane Kiffin, who had been told he would be released following the team's 24-23 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 21, ESPN reports.     • Jason Campbell tossed two passes and Clinton Portis gobbled up 141 yards in the Washington Redskins' 26-24 victory over the previously unbeaten Dallas Cowboys, USA Today reports.
