(Newser) The Conjuring unseated three-week box office champ Despicable Me this weekend, with the horror flick pulling in $41.5 million in its debut while the latter claimed the No. 2 spot with $25 million. Turbo took third with $21.5 million. Grown Ups 2 and Red 2 rounded out the No. 4 and 5 spots, with $20 million and $18.5 million, respectively. The AP notes that RIPD, starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds, had a not-so-spectacular debut with $12.76 million.

went and saw it last night... 6.8/10 pretty good movie, but definitely could have been alot scarier.. only made me jump once or twice ( and im usually pretty jumpy in demonic-exorcism-horror movies ) definitely not 'the benchmark for all horror movies ' like the ads say lol

Wouldn't you know, the only good film, R.I.P.D., didn't make enough money.

"scares up..." not a fan of unclever headlines. Must be a go to for horror movies
