(Newser) – The name some of us have been breathlessly waiting for is here: Royal officials say Britain's new prince has been named George Alexander Louis. Palace officials said today that the 2-day-old baby and third-in-line to the throne will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge. Earlier, they said new parents Prince William and wife Kate are spending "private and quiet time for them to get to know their son." Little Georgie met the Queen and Uncle Prince Harry earlier today.

i'd have thought that either 'william' or 'charles' would have been part of his name. this is a surprise.

King George the 6th was Queen Elizabeth's father. Louis is one of William's names and also Charles' favorite uncle Louis Mountbatten and Alexander, they just liked it, leading some to think they may call him Alex at home.
