(Newser) – Billy Bob Thornton will star in the TV version of the film Fargo. The Oscar winner has signed on to a limited series based on the 1996 Coen brothers' flick. It's scheduled for a 10-episode run on FX next year. Fans of the movie shouldn't expect to see the same story retold, however. Thornton will play a rootless con artist, and no characters will be carried over from the film. Even so, FX chief John Landgraf says the series will be "remarkably true to the film." Joel and Ethan Coen are associated with the series.

I just gotta say it, is his real name William Robert Thornton? And he just goes by his Southern style nickname of 'Billy Bob' Thornton? Is that it?

How often do TV versions of anything film work? MASH? Success.... TV version of The Shining? Utter failure.... Sarah Coonnor Chronicles? Debatable? I thought it was shite but I know some people who loved it.
