Man Tries to Scuba Dive Drugs From Canada to US Canadian arrested after river swim By Rob Quinn, Newser Staff Posted Aug 21, 2013 12:08 AM CDT 13 comments Comments The Canadian's stash was carried in a large watertight container. (US Customs and Border Protection) (Newser) – Guards on the Michigan side of the US-Canada border made a bizarre late-night bust: A Canadian smuggler in full scuba gear bringing eight pounds of marijuana across the border. The frogman was busted after a tipster called police to report somebody swimming across the St. Clair River, reports the Sarnia Observer. Authorities warn that the river is a busy shipping lane and trying to swim across is foolhardy—especially at night. "If there’s a freighter coming through there, there’s no way for a freighter to stop. That’s a very, very dangerous thing to do," a customs spokesman says.
