A bitterly cold winter is just around the corner, if you believe the Farmers' Almanac. The 197-year-old publication's forecaster, "Caleb Weatherbee," predicts that around two-thirds of the US will have a colder-than-usual winter, with heavy snowfall in much of the country, and stormy weather for the outdoor Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey. The almanac says it predicts the weather using a "secret mathematical and astronomical formula" devised in 1818 that considers "sunspot activity, moon phases, tidal action, and more," and claims readers find it correct around 80% of the time, the AP notes.
