Miley Follows VMAs With Butt Photos

Even after her VMAs twerkfestapalooza, Miley Cyrus apparently does not think the world has seen quite enough of her rear end. Cyrus followed up Sunday's raunchy show with similarly raunchy pictures of her behind, posted on Twitter last night and this morning. In related news, Billy Ray Cyrus (whose birthday was Sunday—happy birthday, dad!) tweeted that night, "Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love ...less hate." Many assumed it was a reference to the hate directed at his daughter, Fox News reports, but Cyrus explained in a later tweet that he was actually talking about the situation in Syria. Meanwhile, quite a few others did react to Miley's awards show performance:

  • The Parents Television Council, not surprisingly, is outraged. It responded by asking Congress to pass legislation allowing viewers to drop cable channels they don't want (read: MTV), the Hill reports. (Amusing side note: Billy Ray is an advisory board member of the PTC, People reports.)

  • Rush Limbaugh, who addressed Miley's performance on his show yesterday, is similarly displeased, Salon reports. He called the performance "pure, unadulterated rot" that was "just this side of onstage pornography."
  • It's not just the sexuality that has some people upset: On Vulture, Jody Rosen calls the performance a "minstrel show," noting that Miley has been "toying with racial imagery" a lot lately, but the VMAs performance—particularly when she spanked the butt of a black backup dancer—pushed things over the line into "what we may as well just call racism."
  • On the Huffington Post, Kia Makarechi agrees: "All the elements of nu-Cyrus that critics have called foul on in recent weeks were on display: black people used as props, black cultural signifiers like twerking used as a means of connoting that Miley's now wild and dangerous, and little in the way of new or evocative imagery."
