'Syrian' Hackers Strike Again: Deface Marine Corps Site

Fresh from taking down the New York Times website last week, the pro-Assad Syrian Electronic Army has apparently hit another target: the US Marine Corps. The Marines' recruiting website, Marines.com, was attacked earlier today, replaced with a page calling Obama a "traitor" and arguing that the Syrian government and the US face a common enemy in al-Qaeda insurgents, the Wall Street Journal reports. The page also featured photos of people in US military uniforms holding up signs saying things like "I will not fight for al-Qaeda," and "I didn’t join the Marine Corps to fight for al-Qaeda in a Syrian civil war."

"The Syrian army should be your ally not your enemy," the page said. "Refuse your orders and concentrate on the real reason every soldier joins their military, to defend their homeland. You’re more than welcome to fight alongside our army rather than against it." The Marines have now taken control of the site again, and a spokesman says no information was at risk, the AP reports. Officials say that any strike against Syria is more likely to be carried out by the Navy, anyway, reports the Journal. (More Syrian Electronic Army stories.)
