(Newser) – John McCain has been taking some flak from Fox News, whose anchors have been accusing him of "bailing out" President Obama by backing the notion of a military strike on Syria, reports Mediaite. The tensions seemed to spill over in a recent segment in which host Brian Kilmeade played a clip of a Syrian rebel shooting down a plane and yelling "Allahu Akbar":

  • Kilmeade: “I have a problem helping those people if they’re screaming that after a hit."
  • McCain: "You have a problem with that? Would you have a problem with an American, a Christian, saying, ‘Thank God? Thank God?’ That’s what they’re saying. Come on. Of course they’re Muslims. But they’re moderates, and I guarantee you that they are moderates. I know them and I’ve been with them. For someone to say ‘Allahu Akbar’ is about as offensive as someone saying, 'Thank God.'"

Most people in this country are aware that there is a spectrum of beliefs and devoutness within Christianity and Judaism. We have our Christian Jihadists who spew hate and advocate or perpetrate violence against those who are different. Weren't most members of the KKK good old boy Christians? Why is it so hard to understand that such a spectrum exists in other religious traditions? Would US Christians be surprised or insulted if they were told that some Muslims think that all Christians want to kill homosexuals and physicians who perform abortions - that Muslims think that extreme and aggressive Christians are the norm and the rest of the spectrum doesn't exist.

This isn't a story. The story here is that Fox is very actively slanting all its coverage of the Syria issue -- big surprise here -- toward bashing Obama. Basic premise being, if he's for it, we're against it (no matter what we might have said before). Plays well with their racist dittohead Republican audience, otherwise unremarkable, except as another illustration of bald-faced pandering by the supposed "fair and balanced" channel.

I think theres a big difference Mr. McCain doesn't mention here. Do we thank God for his help in killing others? I can just see our soldiers in the field now charging the enemy shouting thank God, thank God, thank God. We thank God for our life. The radicals thank Allah for the ability to kill. For the ability to eliminate those who do not have their beliefs. BIG DIFFERENCE!
