Al-Shabab militants ambushed and killed Omar Hammami, the so-called "rapping Jihadist" from Daphne, Alabama, members of the militant group tell the AP. Hammami, who goes by the nom de guerre "Abu Mansoor Al-Amriki," or "the American," has been on the run from his former comrades in arms following a public spat with the group's leadership. Hammami accused them of living lavish lifestyles off of taxes collected from their fighters, and complained that they weren't interested in fighting outside of Somalia.

This isn't the first time Hammami's been reported dead—it happens every few months, only for the militant to resurface shortly thereafter. But this time "I think it's very likely true based on the sources I am seeing," says one journalist specializing in international terrorism. Hammami first said he feared al-Shabab would try to kill him in a March 2012 web video. This April, he tweeted, "Just been shot in the neck by shabab assassin. not critical yet," adding, "abu zubayr has gone mad. he's starting a civil war." The US government has a $5 million bounty on Hammami's head, but we're guessing the militants won't try to collect. (More Omar Shafik Hammami stories.)
