Well, either that, or Hemsworth's infidelity was to blame

(Newser) – If you were cringing during Miley Cyrus' VMA performance, well, so was her then-fiance. "Miley and Liam were already pretty much broken up at that point, but when he saw her performance and the backlash it created, it was the nail in the coffin," a source tells Radar. "That was all he needed to finally break up with Miley once and for all. He was embarrassed, disgusted, and mortified by her performance." The two officially announced their split yesterday, but E! says Liam started moving his things out of Miley's place right around the VMAs—but that source says Miley was the one to call things off, since she believed Liam was being "less than faithful to her."

Even before the breakup was announced, Hemsworth was spotted flirting with Eiza Gonzalez, a 23-year-old Mexican actress and singer, at a Las Vegas nightclub Sunday night. "They never left each other’s sides," a source tells Life & Style, and they left together around 2am. Hemsworth had also previously been linked to January Jones, but a source insists to E!, "January has nothing to do with this" even though Hemsworth was rumored to have sent her a flirty text just days ago. "January and Liam have not seen each other at all" since February, the source says.

Miley arose from the digital age as a harbinger of greater freedom of speech, personal freedom, and sexual expression which accompany rejection of established authority. Prigs living in the last century must prepare for future shock on entry into the present. Miley, Lady Gaga, Rihanna et al are only entertainers, but they herald a new age with new ways of thinking and being in the world and appear as the latest in the long line of rebels and brave thinkers extending back through the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Picasso, Marx, Darwin, Galileo, Copernicus, Socrates and intellectuals ad infinitum who have made the world a better place.

Miley & Rihanna will do absolutely anything for publicity.
