(Newser) – Astronauts at the International Space Station are waiting patiently for their next shipment of goods to arrive on a privately owned space capsule. After taking off tomorrow, the spacecraft from Orbital Sciences (a rival of SpaceX) will carry about 1,500 pounds of supplies up to the ISS—including chocolate.

It's nice that space travel is becoming privatized. Once we no longer had to compete with the Soviet Union for bragging rights, there was no reason for government to be so heavily involved anymore. As in the recent sci fi movie "Elysium," in time there will be hotels for wealthy space tourists. In time companies will be mining asteroids. As usual, science fiction eventually becomes scientific fact and some businessmen will take risks to see if they can profit from it.

Doing NASCAR laps around Earth is a colossal waste of money. Spend it on something of scientific value. Or put it towards fixing bridges and roads.
