Wife Pleads Guilty in 'Telepathic' Rape Case

A sad, strange case out of Utah, where a husband and wife have each used a mental illness defense in the shooting of their neighbor. Meloney and Michael Selleneit, both 55, became convinced that the neighbor was raping Meloney "telepathically" and controlling her mind, reports the Salt Lake Tribune. She bought a gun illegally and convinced her husband to shoot the neighbor, say police. Luckily, the neighbor survived the gunshot in his back—received while he was working in the yard—and both Selleneits eventually pleaded guilty. Michael is serving his time (two consecutive sentences of up to 15 years) in a state mental hospital, and Meloney, who gets sentenced next month, already is there receiving treatment.
