(Newser) – Despite initially suggesting the possibility of a hate crime, police are now saying the stabbing death of a white US soldier was likely not motivated by race. Police say 20-year-old Army specialist Tevin Geike was walking with two fellow soldiers in western Washington when witnesses say a group of five black men yelled "something about being white." According to the police statement, an argument followed, ending with Geike's friends realizing the Army specialist had been stabbed. Today police announced the arrests of three soldiers in connection to the stabbing.
