(Newser) – An unexpected blizzard has left tens of thousands of cattle dead in South Dakota this week. After the storm, ranchers emerged from their homes to find countless bodies scattered throughout the deep snow. The record-breaking blizzard dumped as much as four feet of snow in some areas and knocked out power lines with hurricane-strength wind gusts. State officials say as many as 20,000 cattle lost their lives, and that the losses are devastating for the ranchers.

Why couldn't the meat be salvaged? Maybe not for human consumption but at least for cats, dogs, hogs, zoos, etc.

No farm bill. No partial compensation. Local farm bureau shutdown due to govt. shutdown. Nice goin' "no government" tea party freaks.
