Steve Hurst, an Alabama state representative, is apparently determined to make surgical castration a legal punishment for child molesters. After a bill that would have done just that failed to make it past committee during the 2013 session, Hurst has re-submitted it for the 2014 session, the Florence Times Daily reports. The bill would also saddle offenders with the bill for the surgical procedure. It only applies to offenders over the age of 21 whose victims were 12 or younger. At least nine states have the chemical, not surgical, version of castration on the law books, CNN reported last year. (More castration stories.)
